Looking Forward to Seeing You!

On Christmas Eve, 2020, I was in surgery for the removal of pancreatic cancer. It’s been a long haul since then, but I’ve managed to finish two manuscripts. I finally feel like I can join the human race again, and am super excited to go to Left Coast Crime in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in April. I’m bringing with me AERDON MANOR MURDERS, the first book of my new, second series, LISI PENDLETON MYSTERIES.

My first series, CALI MAY MYSTERIES, will also have a new book, GHOSTS IN PARADISE. This will be the 7th book in this series. So many of my favorite authors have written new books, and I expect to come home with huge TBR pile. But I am most excited to see everyone, participate in the panels, and host a table at the banquet. Let’s hope we’re all able to attend in person! I hope all of you are safe and healthy. ~ Wendy

Cali May’s next adventure!
Cali researches her family tree and finds a long lost cousin, Lola Penrose, living on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Lola invites her to come for a visit, and stay in the Penrose Retreat House. Cali arrives the morning after the murder of Lola’s Aunt Gracie, and not only stumbles over the dead body, but also a group of brooding spirits who arrive to help Gracie into the afterlife. Did the murder have anything to do with the large, sealed, clay pot, dating from the 1500’s, Gracie found buried in the crawlspace under her cottage? And are there really man-eating alligators in Florida?

Looking Forward to 2019!

Left Coast Crime 2019: A Whale of a Crime!

In March I will be attending Left Coast Crime 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia. (Having just returned to our home in Florida, US, from a visit to family and friends in North Bay, Ontario, I can only hope Vancouver will be warmer!) I’m looking forward to meeting new and returning writers and friends. (I may even be included on a panel! I’ll keep you posted.) See you there. @leftcoastcrime @shortontimebooks #amwriting #writing #mystery #paranormal

Debut Mystery: Death Remembers

Anyone registered to attend who has not yet emailed in their book award nominations, please consider nominating my debut novel, Death Remembers, for ‘Best Debut Mystery,’ published in 2018 by Short on Time Books. Death Remembers, by Wendy Fallon

A year after the death of her husband, Arizona resident and recently retired California (Cali) May is feeling old, tired and obsolete. As she spirals out of emotional control, she begins to experience terrifying visions. Burdened not only with depression and overwhelming grief, but now also with learning to live with ghosts, she begins to use her new, controversial talent to uncover clues to past and current murders. Discovering her husband did not succumb to cancer, but was murdered, she enlists the help of Daniel Silvertree, a Native American Arizona State Park Ranger and the only one who doesn’t condemn her paranormal capabilities. Together they uncover the truth about the missing priceless Native American carvings, murder, and corporate corruption.

Death Remembers hits #1, Now Free!

Death Remembers #1

An amazing thing happened today!

The first book in my series, Cali May Mysteries, Death  Remembers, went to number one on Amazon in it’s category (Native American). Thank you to everyone who purchased, read, and/or reviewed it, and to all of you who have encouraged me to continue writing. And since it is a ghost story it is…

Free, just in time for Halloween!

Celebrate with me and download the first Cali May Mysteries book, Death Remembers, for free from Amazon, starting today, Oct. 25th, through Sunday, Oct. 28th. What better way to see if you enjoy a good haunted mystery set against the desert environment and history of Arizona, with a hint of romance. I’m hoping you will like the second book, Killing Rose, and the third book, Magnolia Murders, just as much.

Bouchercon 2018: An Amazing Time!

Magnolia Murders
California ‘Cali’ May’s next adventure, Magnolia Murders, is now available as an e-book on Amazon. I have promised my First Readers and Reviewers a free e-copy and am waiting for my publisher to send me copies of the mobi and PDF files. For those of you who can’t wait, however, Magnolia Murders is available on Amazon for $2.99. Should you elect to purchase the e-book and provide an Amazon review, I will be forever thankful for your support. All my readers are very dear to me, and I love you all.

Lee Child, Tasha Alexander, and Andrew Grant: Lee and Andrew are brothers, and Tasha is Andrew’s wife. All three are award winning authors.

Bouchercon 2018: An Amazing Time!
To be honest, I deliberately kept my expectations of this event on the low side. I’d been to smaller book conferences (Left Coast Crime) and found the first one quite intimidating. However, surprise! I met my first author heros, Laurie B. King and Ann Cleeves at that event three years ago. From then on, I’ve been hooked. Imagine being a voracious reader, an aspiring writer, a lover of mystery, and finding my favorite authors so accessible!

Bouchercon was spoken of in awed whispers, as if it was the ultimate reader and writer experience. I’m here to tell you, it really is. Imagine my shock (yes, shock!) at meeting Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Deborah Crombie, and so many other personal favorites. The experience was right up there with meeting a rock star (for some.) I was so afraid I’d be too shy to speak, or say something so dumb they’d remember me for my stupid remarks. But I wasn’t, and I didn’t. All of them were gracious, friendly, and interested to meet their fans. Not one of them was intimidating.

The other component of this event that was so amazing was the surprising numbers of familiar faces: Terry Bischoff, acquiring editor for Midnight Ink, Anne Cleeland, a fantastic author who helped me rehearse my first pitch in an elevator at LCC 2018 in Reno, and Mary Sawicki and Marie Gamber, two of my first fans.

And what about new friends? Being new to Florida, I hadn’t yet met any local authors, and faced my first Bouchercon without someone to eat meals with, go to panels with, or get lost in the Vinoy with. Dee Speers and Wendy Dingwall came to my rescue, along with Carla Neggers, all accomplished authors. They are now wonderful new friends who let me hang out, laugh over shared observations, and meet our idols together.

Bouchercon 2018

I’m thrilled to be attending my first Bouchercon, the largest mystery writer and reader book conference in the world. We recently moved from Phoenix, Arizona, to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, which is approximately two hours from the event in St. Petersburg. Because we decided I could go at the last minute (finances, schedules, dog, etc.) a flurry of activity ensued. Business cards? Need to order more, especially for my newest book Magnolia Murders. Flights? No need, I’m driving. Hotel room? The event venue has been booked solid since 2017, but found a room close by. Rain? Yes, bring the umbrella and boots. I’m hoping to meet or see many of my favorite authors, even from afar! I’m so excited!

Left Coast Crime 2019: Whale of a Crime, Vancouver, BC, Canada

I’ve also just signed up for Left Coast Crime to be held March 28 – 31, 2019. I’ve registered to serve on a panel or two, so we’ll see if they take me. There are many authors who attend LCC but not Bouchercon, and vice versa, so I expect to meet and see a different set of  favorites, and close friends. Among those I recognize will be Merrilee Robson, Cathy Ace, Simon Wood, Laurie Fagen, Margaret Morse, Laurie R. King, and Carola Dunn.

My next book: Magnolia Murders

Magnolia Murders, the next Cali May Mystery in my series will be published on Sept. 12, 2018. I’m hoping you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Click here for a summary.

Cali May attends an artists’ retreat at the Tawnee Mountain Ski and Golf Resort in Northern New Jersey. When she and the other attendees arrive, they find the spacious, enclosed gondolas out of order. They must ride the ordinary ski lift to the summit of the Black Diamond run to a small lodge. Cali overcomes her fear of heights with difficulty to climb aboard a chair, but is horrified to see a figure fall to earth half-way up the mountain. Is this an accident or murder? Isolated at the top of the Black Diamond run with a group of creative souls, both dead and alive, she must find a murderer before he kills again.
